MEDIA RELEASE FROM IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION

Private Home Care Inter-Club Championships
Courtown Golf Club

Wexford became the first winners of a pennant at this year’s Private Home Care Championships when they defeated Clandeyboye in a nail biting final of the Junior Cup.
Clandeboye held a slight advantage at the halfway point but Wexford showed their fighting spirit, epitomised by Carmel Murphy who secured the trophy thanks to a regulation par at the first extra hole.
Lee Valley appeared to have a more comfortable win over Malone to claim the Intermediate Cup.  Despite the match hanging in the balance at the turn and the southern team suffering defeats at the top and bottom of the order, Roisin Murray, Sandra Brown and Helen Hodson delivered convincing wins to lift the trophy for the Leesiders.
Friday’s third final saw St. Anne’s and Mountbellew do battle in the Minor Cup. The Connacht champions sneaked well fought victories in the top two matches before Geraldine Coyne, playing at the bottom of the order, confirmed the title for Mountbellew with a fine 6 and 4 victory over her luckless opponent from St. Anne’s.

Hermitage booked their place in tomorrow’s final of the Senior Foursomes with a win over Kilkenny in the morning quarter final play off, followed by a semi final victory against Ballinasloe.
Hermitage established early commanding leads in both ties which saw them progress with relative ease but the East Leinster champions are sure to face tough competition from a strong Malone side that also inflicted heavy defeats on their semi final opponents, Castletroy.
The semi finals of the Junior Foursomes saw Glen of the Downs lose their opening tie to Athenry but they responded well through Caroline Archer and Alice Lim claiming the bottom match before a 2 and 1 win for Anne Gavagan and Ann O’Farrelly booked the Wicklow side a place in Saturday’s final where they  will face Rockmount who also won the bottom two matches in defeating their opponents Castletroy.
The Challenge Cup semi finals both required extra holes in both semi finals to determine Saturday’s finalists.  Bridget Whelan was the heroin for Dun Laoghaire with a win at the third extra hole over her Mullingar opponent.  Michelle Magnier delivered the all important win at the 20th hole for Castletroy, playing in their their semi final of the day, to book a worthy place in final at the expense of Co. Armagh.
