North-east District open amateur golf champion Chris Robb from Banchory, a third-year student at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, finished joint 30th in a field of 75 for the Ping-Golfweek Preview college tournament at Alpharetta, Georgia.
Robb had rounds of 68, 74 and 74 for a total of six-over-par 216 over a long par-70 course (7,248yd). He finished eight shots behind the winner, Tom Berry (San Diego State) from Surrey, with rounds of 67, 69 and 72 for two-under 208.
Liam Johnston from Dumfries, a team-mate of Robb at Tennessee-Chattanooga, finished joint 58th with scores of 73, 73 and 76 for 222.
The Tennessee-Chattanooga team also includes Steven Fox who won the US amateur championship the same day that Robb won the NE District Open at Newmachar during the summer.
But Fox did not touch that height of form in this tournament. He finished T39 on 217 with scores of 75, 75 and 70.
Tennessee-Chattanooga (894) finished last of the 15 teams behind California and Georgia Tech (both 845). Teneesee-Chattanooga's problem is that they are two players short of having a decent team.
The other two players in their team of five at this event finished second last and last.
