COLLEGE NEWS FROM AMERICA
Anne Walker from Strathaven is beginning her first season at Stanford University, California.
The Scot was appointed head women's golf team coach in July following the resignation of Caroline O'Connor who had held the post for 17 years.
Another Scot, Kathryn (Marshall) Imrie from Monifieth is the Stanford assistant women's coach.
"We are very excited to have Anne Walker join us as the new coach of the Stanford Women's Golf Team," said Director of Athletics Patrick Dunkley.
"Anne possesses an enthusiasm for the sport of golf and the student-athlete experience as well as an understanding of the mission, vision and values of Stanford Athletics.
"I look forward to working with Anne and to seeing the success she will bring to the golf program."
Walker comes to Stanford from UC Davis where she was the head golf coach for four years. She led the Aggies from their transition from NCAA Division II to being competitive at the national level in NCAA Division I.
UC Davis won two Big West Conference titles under her guidance and advanced to a pair of NCAA Tournaments, including one NCAA finals. Walker also led the Aggies to its first-ever top-20 national ranking.
During her time at UC Davis, Walker was a three-time Big West Coach of the Year and in 2009 had two of her players qualify for the U.S. Women's Open. She coached three Big West Players of the Year and two Big West Freshmen of the Year.
"My fiance Chris and I are thrilled to be joining the Stanford family," said Walker.
"The women's golf program has a rich and storied history, one which I am now privileged to be a part. Stanford University is the nation's finest institution and I am grateful to the Athletic Department for affording me this opportunity. "I look forward to working closely with the current team players, Coach Conrad Ray and the men's team as we continue to build the tradition of Stanford Golf."
During her time at UC Davis, the Aggies won five tournaments and reached a national ranking of No. 14 during the 2011-12 season.
Walker began her coaching career at California where she is also an alum. She graduated in 2002 and immediately stepped into a role as assistant coach. Walker was named Associate Head Coach at Cal in 2007, before taking the UC Davis head job in 2008.
During her playing days, Walker was a three-time captain for the Golden Bears who twice won individual medalist honours for Cal. In addition, she was the 2002 Pac-10 medal winner. Walker was three times an All-Pac-10 selection and also received NGCA All-America Scholar honors three times. Later this year, Walker will be inducted into the California Athletics Hall of Fame.
