STEPH PEARETH MAKES WINNING DEBUT FOR CONCORD UNIVERSITY

BRITS IN AMERICA ... US COLLEGE NEWS ROUND-UP
FROM KEN CONDON

Durham’s Steph Peareth, playing in her first tournament for Concord University as a junior after transferring from Pfeiffer, won the Falcon Fall Classic, played on the par 71, 5900 yards course at the Sunny Croft CC in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Steph’s score of 148 (73-75) gave her a two-shot victory over Fairmont State’s Elizabeth Frederick, and helped Concord to the team title with a score of 631, forty shots ahead of second-placed West Virginia Wesleyan.
This is not Steph’s first victory on US soil as she was also medallist this time last year whilst at Pfeiffer.

Meanwhile, Indiana University’s senior Rosie Davies, from London, finished tied 2nd on 146 (76-70) at their home event in Bloomington, Indiana.
Rosie tied with teammate Pamela Burneski but both finished one behind another teammate, Elizabeth Tong. A team score of 590 was good enough for tournament victory, 27 shots ahead of 2nd place IUPUI.

In Baylor University’s opening event of the fall season played on the par 72, 6302 yards Ptarmagin CC Course in Fort Collins CO, sophomore Hayley Davis from Dorset, led for the Bears tying for 9th with a score of 219 (72-73-74).
Fellow sophomore Emma Carberry, Sussex, finished 15th, on 222 (74-71-77). In an excellent start to her collegiate career, freshman Lauren Taylor, the 2011 British open amateur champion from Rugby, tied 13th on 221 (76-74-71).
Despite the three Brits being in the top 15 in a field on 90, Baylor’s combined total of 887 was only good enough for 2nd, some 27 shots behind runaway winners Texas Tech. UNLV finished 3rd on 891.

At the Tascaco Golf Club in Amarillo TX, Newman University seniors, Megan Birdsey, Bedfordshire, and West Kilbride’s Linzi Allan,  helped the team to a 3rd place finish on a total of 628 (313-315), nine shots behind winners Lubbock Christian, and five back from 2nd place Midwestern State.
 Individually, Megan shot 156 (77-79) with Linzi just behind on 158 (79-79) to finish in a tie for 12th and 18th respectively.

Daisy Kenny from Surrey, a freshman at the University of West Florida, played her part in the 3rd place finish for the team at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate in Sevleirville, Tennessee.
On a par 70, 5811 yards course, a team total of 617 (309-308) trailed 2nd placed California U PA by 9 and a further two behind the winners Newberry College.
Daisy’s individual total of 159 (82-77) saw her into a tie for 31st in a field of 83.

Further Brit scores from tourneys already mentioned;

Gemma Dryburgh was actually playing at the Old Waverly Bulldog, West Point, Missouri. In addition to the Scot, who scored her first win at Tulane University,  was Murray State freshman, Sophie Hillier, Bedfordshire, T55/65 on 252 (84-85-83).
