ABBEY GITTINGS RUNNER-UP AS NOVA SE WIN TITLE AGAIN

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida  – After two rounds at the 8th-Annual Guy Harvey Invitational, the Nova Southeastern University women’s golf team took home the team title shooting six strokes better than second placed Rollins College. 
The Sharks finished at +13 shooting a two-round score of 589 (290-299) on the 6,163-yard, par 72 PGA National Palmer course.
Coming into the tournament, the Sharks had won the past four Shark Invitationals hosted at PGA National. This year, NSU made it a fifth straight with a six-stroke victory after firing a tournament low 290 in the opening round. In each of the previous Invitational wins, the Sharks have gone on to win the Division II national title.

Individually, Rollins’ Annie Dulman finished with a two-round 142 (-2) to win the individual medallist honours with rounds of 72 and 70 for 142 over a 6,163yd course with a par of 72.
Dulman won by four shots from Nova SE senior year student Abbey Gittings (Tamworth, England) at the head of a field of 81.
Abbey fired back-to-back rounds of 73 for a two-round 146 (+2). Other Brits in the field were Aberdeen's Rachel Polson (Florida Tech) who finished T16 on 152 (77-75), Jessica Bradley (Lynn) from North Devon T19 on 154 (75-79) and former Welsh girls champion Rachel Lewis (Nova SE) from Cardiff, a transfer from USC UpState, who finished T62 on 169 (84-85).
Leading placings in the 15-team event were:
589 Nova SE. 595 Rollins. 612 Florida Southern. 616 Barr6. 620 Lynn. 624 Florida Tech. 

KEN CONDON'S COLLEGE ROUND-UP

Playing in her final year at Nova Southeastern, Warwickshire’s Abbey Gittings continues to add to her long list of successes. In the Guy Harvey Invitational finished Tuesday and hosted by NSU, and played at the Par 72, 6163yards PGA Palmer-National Course at Palm Beach Gard, FL, Abbey led the Sharks home to victory with a score of 589 (290-299), six strokes ahead of 2nd placed Rollins 595 (301-294). In the individual, Abbey tied for 2nd of 81 competitors on 146 (73-73), four shots behind medallist Annie Dulman. Yorkshire’s Sophie Olley on 149 (75-74) tied for 8th, Aberdeen’s Rachel Polson (Florida Tech) 152 (77-75) tied 16th and Jess Bradley (Lynn) 154 (75-79) tied 19th
An interesting stats footnote is that in her freshman year Sophie Olley averaged 82.4 over 26 rounds when playing for Murray State. Since transferring to Embry-Riddle in the summer, her average in two tournaments now reads an amazing 76.5!

In other events finishing Tuesday

Lincolnshire’s Jess Schiele representing Oklahoma City, finished tied 3rd of 66 players on 149 (74-75), at OCU’s home event at Lincoln Park GC, which measured 6001yds with a par of 72.  
 Jess helped OCU into 3rd place on 617 (304-313) , 13 behind tournament winners Lubbock, and 4 back from 2nd placed SCAD-Savannah. The individual medallist was Lubbock’s Anna Schopp on 140 (72-68).

Meanwhile, Tiffany Hewitson from Sussex, representing Grand Canyon U, finished on 159 (79-80) in a tie for 21st out of 68 players at the Western Washington Invite at Bellingham GC,WA. Par 73 and the course played 6096 yds. 
GCU finished 4th of 13 teams on 617 (310-307), in an event that was won by Hawii-Hilo on 608 (309-299). Casara Hong, UBC, won medallist on 147 (75-72).
