SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team finished the fall season with a fifth-place finish after shooting a final round 3-over-par 291 on Tuesday in the Alamo Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Course.
Freshman Lauren Taylor (pictured) from Rugby, England finished in second place individually to lead the Lady Bears.
"We had three very similar days this week," head coach Jay Goble said. "We had flashes of brilliance and then we showed our inexperience the next minute, but we had a solid fall. We will now regroup and get ready to have an even better spring."
Baylor (+10; 291-292-291=874) edged Kentucky (+11; 292-301-282=875) for the last spot in the top five.
Oklahoma (-16; 279-284-285=848) finished atop the leaderboard, followed by Texas A&M in second (-8; 289-282-285=856) and a third-place tie between tournament-host UTSA (-1; 290-283-290=863) and Tulane (-1; 287-296-280=863).
Former British women's open amateur champion at the age of 16, Taylor (-5; 72-69-70=211) entered the final round tied for seventh place, but she shot 2-under 70 to move into second place, earning her best career finish.
Taylor finished just two strokes behind the winner Maribel Lopez Porras (-7; 68-72-69=209) of Tulane.
"Lauren played very well this week," Goble said. "She bounced back from a tough finish on Sunday to have her best college event. Lauren stayed very patient out there this week and I am very proud of her."
Hayley Davis (-3; 67-73-73=213) finished tied for fifth place along with four other players.
Emma Carberry (+9; 75-75-75=225) from Hailsham finished tied for 41st, while Kaylin Terry (+11; 78+75+74=227) and Annette Lyche (+11; 77-76-74) tied for 47th place. Natalia Perez (+31; 83-75-89=247) competed as an individual for the Lady Bears.
Former English women's champion Davis from Dorset held the tournament lead on the back-nine, but she fell just short of her first collegiate victory. She finished in the top-10 of all four tournaments during the fall season, including a second-place finish at the Tar Heel Invitational - her fifth second-place finish in 16 career events.

"Hayley (pictured right) had a tough finish today, but she had another great event," Goble said. "She continues to put herself in position to win and she is the ultimate competitor."
Texas-San Antonio University freshman Brogan Townend (Texas-San Antonio) from Blackburn finished T28 on 220 with scores of 75-68-77.
North Texas University freshman Georgina Mundy from Southampton finished T65 with scores of 75-77-83 for 235
The Lady Bears have more than three months off before returning to action on Feb. 4 at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida.
