Meghan MacLaren Named Sun Belt Golfer of the Month
MIAMI, FLA. (FIUSports.com) –
Sun Belt Conference golf coaches have selected their initial men’s and
women’s golfers of the month for the 2012-13 season, and FIU freshman Meghan MacLaren
(Cambridge, U.K.) took home Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golfer of the
Month honors after an impressive start to her collegiate career.
North Texas’ Rodolfo Cazaubon was named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month.
MacLaren
was part of a three-way tie for medalist honors, winning the Wolverine
Invitational in her collegiate debut. The freshman scored a 14-over
(227) to equal Eastern Michigan’s Alyssa Kwon and Michigan’s Alicia
Weber for the individual title, and remained atop the leaderboard after
all three rounds over the course of the event.
At the
Sixth Annual Johnie Imes Invitational, MacLaren finished tied for third
among 99 golfers with an even par score (216) after 54 holes. The
stellar effort from MacLaren helped the Panthers finish in a tie for
fourth in the team standings at 29-over, 893 (302-303-288). FIU’s final
day score of 288 was the second-lowest team score of the tournament, to
SMU’s second round 284.
MacLaren
and the Panthers will look to keep it going on Oct. 21-23 when they host
the FIU Pat Bradley 35th Annual Tournament. FIU will then conclude its
fall schedule the following weekend at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational
in Oahu, Hawaii.
