Former Liverpool FC midfielder Jamie Redknapp today presented the Alfred Dunhill Schools Golf Challenge trophy to the junior winners of the competition, Jordan Halley and Claire Robertson.
The
pair took the honours in their respective categories at the tournament
last month, which was staged over the Kittocks Course at The Fairmont,
St Andrews.
The competition featured a strong field of young golfers, representing a number of schools from across Tayside and Fife. Second year Carnoustie High School student, Jordan, shot a net 68 off a handicap of 18 to take the Junior Boys title while his fellow third year pupil, Claire, won the Junior Girls category with a net score of 75.

Grove Academy pupil David Hutton won the Senior Boys category of the competition
with a net 74 off a handicap of eight while the overall scratch prize
was won by Niall McMullan of Lochgelly High School.
The 14 year old, single handicap player was unable to attend today’s prize-giving as he was called up for a Scotland U16s team match.

Redknapp,
who was in St Andrews to take part in this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links
Championship, congratulated the young golfers and shared some advice
about how they can continue to excel in the sport.
“I think it’s the same for all sports. If you don’t practise and you’re not willing to put the hours in, it just won’t happen,” he said. “As a kid all I wanted to do was play football so I worked hard at it because that’s what it’s all about. I think it was Gary Player who said ‘the harder you work, the luckier you get.’”

A
five handicap golfer, Redknapp’s father Harry introduced him to the
sport as a youngster although he only took it up seriously after
retiring from football.
