ARIYA HEADS FOR LET Q SCHOOL AFTER WINNING POLO JUNIOR TITLE IN FLORIDA
California-based Thailander Ariya Jutangarn, pictured above, will remember Friday, November 24, 2012 for the rest of her life.
It is her 17th birthday .... it was her last tournament in junior golf after a stellar collection of titles through her tees ... and she won it, the Polo Golf Junior Classic girls' title at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Ariya, ranked No 1 girl golfer in the United States (her sister Moriya is No 2), beat 14-year-old Angel Yin from California, by 5 and 4 in the final.
Yin hits an exceptionally long ball for one so young - she consistently outdrove the bigger and older Ariya who is by no means a short hitter.
But Jutangarn had her opponent's measure in all other departments of the game.
Next up for Ariya is the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 at Marrakech, Morocco, beginning on December 6.
Before that she was heading back home to her base in California for some "fine-tuning" from swing coach Craig Chapman.
The Polo Junior Classic boys' title was won by 17-year-old Adam Wood from Zionsville, Indiana. He knocked over the favourite, Scott Scheffler from Dallas by 3 and 1 in the final. Wood has committed to Duke University.
