MEGHAN OFF THE BOIL BUT FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL WIN TEAM TITLE ON HAWAII
The Florida International University squad with the team trophy and suitably adorned on Hawaii.
Wellinborough's Meghan MacLaren came off the boil in this week's Rainbow Wahine but she still had
plenty to celebrate at Leilehua Golf Club, Honolulu.
Florida International University won the team event and team-mate Shelby Coyle won the individual title.
A first trip to Hawaii for the tournament was another big plus for the memory book.
Meghan scored two wins in the first month or two of her freshman year at Florida International University.
In this one she finished T21 on 228 with scores of 74, 76 and 78.
Meghan had a disastrous inward half of 43 in her third round, dropping six shots to par over three holes in a row - a 5 at the short 12th, a 5 at the par-4 13th, and a triple bogey 7 at the 14th.Sophie Godley from Nottingham, also a Florida International student, finished T28 on 230 with scores of 76, 76 and 78.
The field was 70-strong.
One of Meghan's Florida International team-mates, Shelby Coyle tied with Sarah Johnson (Eastern Michigan) for first place on 218. Shelby scored 72-73-73, Sarah 73-72-73.
Shelby won the sudden-death play-off by sinking a 15ft birdie putt at the first extra hole.
Leading final placings in the team title were:
Florida International 895
Toledo 897
898 Washington state
903 Eastern Michigan.
10 Teams took part.
The course was 6,228yd long with a par of 72.
