Maybe as many as ten or a dozen United States coaches or representatives of women's college golf teams usually attend the British girls' open championship every year.
Their number is likely to increase by at least one in 2013 at Fairhaven Golf Club, Lancashire when the annual championship for Under-18 girls is played in mid-August.
That's because  after a 30-year hiatus from varsity sports, Central Michigan University is to introduce a women’s golf team which is scheduled to begin competition during the 2014-15 academic year.
"This is truly an exciting day for Central Michigan University and our athletics program as we continue to provide additional opportunities for young women to pursue their athletic and academic dreams," CMU Director of Athletics Dave Heeke said.
The university will hire a head coach in the spring of 2013, giving the new coach the 2013-14 season to develop a recruiting base to be ready for competitive play in the 2014-15 college golf season.
So where is Central Michigan University sited? Answer: Mount Pleasant, a town of about 25,000 inhabitants in Isabella County in the state of Michigan.
