A good start does not guarantee pass marks at the Ladies European Tour School final but a bad score on the first day sure can wreck a girl's hopes of making it to the Big League.
Dunblane's Heather MacRae (Gleneagles) and Vikki Laing (Musselburgh) both broke 70 in an encouraging start at the Red City of Marrakech, Morocco today.
Heather's four-under-par 68 at the Amelkis course has her sharing fourth place overnight behind Sweden's Isabella Ramsay who shot a 65 over the same lay-out.
Vikki (pictured right) returned a three-under 69 at Al Maaden and switches courses for the second round in a share of 13th place. Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar), playing as an amateur, had a one-under 71 at Al Maaden but that was good enough only to secure a share of 46th place in an international field of 141 players all playing their hearts out to secure their immediate prospects of future employment. The leading 30 and ties at the end of this 90-hole marathon will gain playing rights on the Ladies European Tour. Pror to that there will be a cut to the leading 60 and ties after 72 holes. Pamela Feggans is sharing 61st place after a par 72 at Al Maaden but Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll is back in joint 105th place after a 75 at Al Maaden.
