NEW BRITISH GOLF ASSOCIATION SENDS TEN YOUNGSTERS TO AUSSIE YOUTH OLYMPIC FESTIVAL

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE PGA

British amateur golf is poised to explore new opportunities through its involvement in the Olympics movement starting with the Australian Youth Olympic Festival 2013.

A team of 10 talented youngsters has been selected to represent Great Britain against seven other nations in the golf event from January 17-20 at Twin Creeks Golf Club.
The team, comprising five boys and five girls, will play men’s and women’s individual events plus a team event against other nations including Argentina, Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, New Zealand and Chinese Taipei.
The full team is as follows:

Jack Singh Brar (Brokenhurst Manor)

Bradley Neil (Blairgowrie)

Ewan Scott (St Andrews)

Harry Ellis (Meon Valley)

Ashton Turner (Kenwick Park)

Gabriella Cowley (Brockell Hall)

Georgia Hall (Remedy Oak)

Chloe Williams (Wrexham)

Amber Ratcliffe (Royal Cromer)

Lauren Whyte (St Regulus).

The team will be accompanied by two officials, Team Leader Kyle Phillpots alongside victorious Curtis Cup captain Tegwen Matthews.

The team is taking part under the body charged with representing golf on the National Olympic Committee which is the British Golf Association (BGA).
The BGA has been formed by the home unions of England (England Golf), Scotland (SLGA and SGU), Wales (GUW) and The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA).

The Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) marks a significant first step for the BGA explained Shona Malcolm, pictured above, Chair of the BGA.
“Being part of the Olympic family has opened up new opportunities to help grow and promote the game across the world,” said Shona.
“The Australian Youth Olympic Festival is an opportunity for the BGA to better understand the requirements of the Olympic movement and how it relates to golf.
“The Olympics is the biggest sporting event in the world and the fact that golf is now involved in the Olympic movement can only further help raise its profile and encourage new generations into the sport.”
The AYOF is a legacy of the Sydney 2000 Olympic games and will feature 25 National Olympic Committees with 2300 athletes and officials which is a similar scale to the Olympic Winter Games.
Team GB will be represented across 11 sports.
