SUPERMAC GOES LOW, NOW JOINT FOURTH IN MOROCCO

Stirling student Kelsey MacDonald, pictured, returned the lowest score of the day - a five-under-par 67 - at the Amelkis course on Day 2 of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 at Marrakech, Morocco.
The Nairn Dunbar player, a former Scottish champion and British international although overlooked for the winning Curtis Cup team in her home town last June, hit peak form with birdies at the long second, short third, fifth, 10th, 12th and 16th. Her only bogey in halves of 34 and 33 came at the short seventh.
Kelsey, who had a par 72 over the Al Maaden course in the first round, has moved up to joint fourth on five-under 139 in the "Field A" group of 77 players.
She is four shots behind the new leader, Emily Taylor (Royal Lytham) who, like Kelsey, is playing as an amateur. Emily had a 68 at Amelkis for nine-under 135.
Also at this venue, Glasgow's Gemma Webster had a 74 for 149 and a share of 54th place.
Only the leading 45 and ties at each course after 72 holes will go forward to the 90-hole Final Stage, also at Marrakech next week.
Meanwhile, Gleneagles staff pro Heather MacRae dug in near the top of "Field B" with a repeat score of 69, but this time at Al Maaden.
Heather, who has toughened up her competitive outlook by playing alongside men on the Tartan Tour, had bogeys at the first and 18th but sandwiched between were birdies at the second, seventh, 11th, 13th and 15th
She is now joint third on six-under 138, three shots behind the new, two-shot leader of "Field B," Curtis Cup hero Holly Clyburn (Woodhall Spa) who shot the low round of the day at Al Maaden, a seven-under 65 for 135.
Majorca-based Lauren Mackin and Scottish amateur champion Laura Murray from Alford are both struggling to make the top-45 qualifying zone at the halfway stage of this pre-qualifying competition.
Mackin is joint 49th on 149 after a 75 while Murray is joint 66th on 152
Murray, watched by boyfriend Keil Beveridge, a coach at Inchmarlo Golf Centre, Banchory, improved by two shots with a 75 but still ran up a couple of double bogeys for the second day in a row. She had four birdies, including a pair of 2s on the inward half, but unforced errors are ruining her bid to make it to the Final Q School.
