ENGLAND NAME FOUR FOR SOUTH AMERICAN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
NEWS RELEASE FROM ENGLAND GOLF
British stroke play champion Sarah-Jane Boyd, English stroke play champion Alex Peters and internationals Callum Shinkwin and Jordan Smith will represent England in the South American amateur championship from 23-26 January.
The 72-hole individual event will take place at the Rincón de Cajica Golf Club in Bogota, Colombia.
Sarah-Jane Boyd, 21, (Truro, Cornwall), pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, won the 2012 British women’s stroke play championship in Belfast and, as a result, secured her place in this year’s Ricoh Women’s British Open over the Old Course at St Andrews.
Last year she also won the England Golf South West women’s championship and her third Cornwall ladies’ title. She trains with the England Golf Performance Squad.
Alex Peters, 19, (Notts Ladies’, Nottinghamshire) won the 2012 English women’s stroke play title and was a member of England’s winning team at the women’s Home Internationals. She also won the Independent Schools’ championship, the Nottinghamshire ladies’ title and shared the Porters Park Centenary Cup. Alex, who was previously an England girl international, is also a member of the Performance Squad.
Both Callum Shinkwin (Moor Park, Hertfordshire) and Jordan Smith (Bowood GandCC, Wiltshire) are full England internationals.
Shinkwin, 19, the English under 18 champion in 2010 and a semi-finalist in the 2011 English Amateur Championship, began 2012 by winning the Hampshire Hog, finishing third in the Berkhamsted Trophy and fifth in the Darwin Salver.
He won all four of his games on his full England debut against France in May then helped England win the European men’s Challenge Trophy in Iceland. He also played in the Home Internationals and is a member of the England squad for this year.
Smith, 20, made his full England debut in last September’s Home Internationals in Scotland. He has been a member of the winning Wiltshire team at the English County Championships for the past two years, while he reached the English Amateur semi-finals in 2012. He also finished joint runner-up in the Chiberta Grand Prix and tied fifth in the Biarritz Cup in successive weeks last summer. He is also a member of the England squad for 2013.
