Katie shot a one-under-par 71 to be sharing eighth place behind the first-round pacemaker, Germany's Vicki Troeltsch.
Curtis Cup player Amy Boulden is sharing 21st place after a 74 - one ahead of another Welsh player, Becky Harries, Carnoustie teenager Jessica Meek and England's Dulcie Sverdloff. They are joint 29th on 75.
