Defending champion Lydia Ko, the world's No 1 female amateur from New Zealand, is right in mix just one back on 136.
On a day when scoring became increasing more difficult due to north-easterly winds picking up to a constant 30 km/hr, Hedwall and Lee posted rounds of three-under-par 69
Fifteen-year-old Ko had a 69 for137/
Western Australian Kristie Smith (70) and Queensland Sarah-Jane Smith (70) share fourth position at six-under-par 138, while first round leaders Victorian Stacey Keating (73) and Bree Arthur (73) along with South Australian Stephanie Na (71) are a further shot back in sixth position.
Five players are at four-under-par 140 - England’s Laura Davies and Elizabeth Bennett, Western Australian Whitney Hillier, New South Wales amateur Shelly Shin and France’s Joanna Klatten. Klatten fired the low-round of the day a five-under-par 67.
62 players will contest the final round after the cut was made at five-over-par.
