Elizabeth Mallett from Sutton Coldfield has achieved her highest finish so far in her freshman year at the University of North Carolina.
Elizabeth, beaten finalist in the British girls championship at West Lancs when she was only 15, shot rounds of 73-69-72 for a two-under-par total of 214 to finish joint third in the University of Central Florida Challenge over a par-72, 6374yd course at Red Tail Golf Club, Sorrento in Florida.
She finished two shots behind the winner, Briana Mao (Virginia) who hit the four-under 212 mark with scores of 70, 69 and 73.
Elizabeth would have shared second place on 213 with F Gustafason Spang (East Carolina) (70-74-69) but for a bogey at the 18th.
Earlier Mallett had given herself a mountain to climb by bogeying the third and fourth but she responded with a three-under-par run which saw her birdie the long seventh, short 11th and short 15th on her way to a closing par 72.
Team-mate Katherine Perry shared third place on 214 with scores of 76-69-69.
Mallett and Perry's efforts helped North Carolina win their third team title in a row with a total of 854 - 17 shots ahead of runners-up Tulane with UCF third on 876 in a field of 18 teams.
Aberdeen's Gemma Dryburgh, a student at Tulane University, finished T64 in a field of 99 players with ever-improving scores of 81-76-73 for a total of 230.
Melissa Siviter (Georgia State) from the West Midlands finished T94 on 241 with scores of 76-82-83.

British women's open amateur champion Stephanie Meadow, pictured, finished joint second in a field of 84 players at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, played over the Rio Mar Country Club course at San Juan.
The Curtis Cup star from Jordanstown, Northern Ireland - a star in the winning GB and I Curtis Cup team at Nairn last June - had roudns of 73-70-71 for a two-under-par total of 214 over the p0ar-73, 6191yd course.
Stephanie finished only one shot behind the winner, US Curtis Cup team player Emily Tubert (Arkansas) who shot 70-70-73 for three-under 213.
Kimberley Kaufman (Texas Tech) shared second place with Meadow on 214. Her scores were 73-72-69.
Meadow was looking like a winner when she birdied the first and long fourth but dropped a shot at the ninth, before birdieing the short 10th.
Stephanie then bogeyed the 13th but again responded with her fourth birdie of the round, at the 16th
At that point, she needed a birdie to win or pars to tie for victory.
Unfortunately Meadow bogeyed the 17th and fell back into a share of second place, an agonising one shot behind the winner.
There were three former British girls championships in the field - Margaux Vanmol (Purdue), who won the title at Gullane two years ago - Laura Gonzalez (also Purdue), winner of the title by beating Kelly Tidy in the 2008 final at Monifieth - and France's Alexandra Bonetti, winner of the British girls title at Royal Belfast in 2010.
Gonzalez finished T38 on 230 (75-79-76); Bonetti (Texas Christian) finished T12 on 222 (73-75-74).
