FORREST MAY HAVE TO RELY ON PALMER CUP WILD CARD SELECTION

Unless he can produce some good US college tournament finishes over the next month or two, Scottish amateur champion Grant Forrest from North Berwick, a student at San Diego University, California, will have to rely on a wild-card selection to Team Europe for the Palmer Cup students' itnernational against the United States at Wilmington Country Club, Delaware from June 7 to 9.
In Forrest's favour is the fact that fellow-Scot Andrew Coltart, the former Ryder Cup player, is coach to Team Europe and next year at Walton Heath (June 27-29).
Forrest is currently not in the top 25 of the Team Europe points qualifying table. Only the top six at the end of the college golf season will go straight into Team Europe.
A place is reserved for the winner of the R&A Scholars tournament at St Andrews on April 9. The remaining three places in the team of 10 will be chosen by Coltart.
Banchory's Chris Robb (Tennessee-Chattanooga), winner of the North-east District Open at Newmachar last summer, was in the top 10 until fairly recently. He is now 19th.
United States lead the series 8-7 with one match draw but Europe have improved their record over the last few years.
