FORREST NOT CATCHING FIFE IN CALIFORNIA
Scottish
amateur champion Grant Forrest from North Berwick, a second-year
student at San Diego University, California, is still searching for the
form that won him the national title at Royal Dornoch last summer.
Forrest, pictured, finished joint 47th in a field of 90 players at the Don Puckett college tournament at Tucson National Golf Club, Arizona this week.
He had scores of 73, 73 and 76 for a six-over-par total of 222 over a longish course (7,200yd) with a par of 72.
Forrest finished 14 shots behind the winner, Julien Brun (Texas Christian) who had scores of 68, 65 and 75 for 208.
Tom Berry a junior student from Surrey at San Diego State University, finished T10 on 213 with scores of 73, 78 and 72.
New Mexico (844) won the title by one shot from Texas Christian with San Diego (893) 12th of 16 teams.
BEN SKINNER JUST OUTSIDE TOP 20
AT WITCHIA FALLS, TEXAS
Ben Skinner, a former Loretto School pupil and now a freshman student at Western New Mexico University, finished joint 21st in a field of 88 at the Midwestern State Invitational college event at Champions' Course, Wichita Falls, Texas.
Over a longish couse of 7034yd (par 72), Skinner, pictured, had rounds of 78, 76 and 76 for a total of 230 - 14 shots behind the winner, Santiago Gomez (Midwestern).
Calum Hill from Perth, a freshman team-mate of Skinner, finished
T33 on 233 with scores of 77, 77 and 79.
Higher up the leaderboard was Tom Neve from Epsom, a freshman student at Western New Mexico. He totalled 223 (77-71-75) and was rewarded with joint seventh place.
Yet another Western New Mexico student, Dan Young, a freshman from chesthire, finished T41 on 234 with scores of 88-75-72.
James Bolton (Newman University), a freshman from Bury, finished T36 on 234 with rounds of 76, 84 and 75.
And Bolton's team-mate, James Hornsby, a freshman from Liverpool, shared 66th place on 244 with deteriorating rounds of 79, 82 and 83.
Midwestern (886) won the team title with Western New Mexico (904) fourth and Newman (923) joint seventh in a field of 15 teams.
SEAN LAWRIE JOINT 6TH IN TEXAS
Sean Lawrie, nephew of Paul Lawre, finished joint sixth in the Midland College Spring Invitational tournament at Green Tree Country Club, Midland, Texas.Lawrie, a second-year student at Midland College, had ever-improving rounds of 75, 72 and 69 for a two-over-par total of 216. He finished six shots behind the winner by three, David Ryan (71-71-68 for 210).Midland won the team title by 18 strokes from runners-up Odessa.
NEALE BARNES DOWN FIELD AT DAYTONA
Neale Barnes, from Aberdeen and a student at the Savannah College of Design and Art, finished 54th in the Eagle Invitational college tournament at LPGA International, Daytona Beach.
Barnes, pictured, had rounds of 75, 79 and 84 for a total of 238, 30 shots behind the winner by 10, Julian Taylor (William Woods University) (70-64-74 for 208).
Taylor Sargeant (also Savannah CDA) finished T43 in a field of 63 with rounds of 80, 81 and 73 for 234 over par-72 course of 6863yd
Savannah lost a play-off to Coastal Georgia for the team title.
