GERMANY CALLING! FIONA ONE OF FAVOURITES AT STRATHMORE
NEWS RELEASE FROM SLGA
Germany-based Fiona Liddell, pictured above by Cal Carson Golf Agency, who plays off scratch, will be
one of the pace makers at the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing
Association Under-16 Open Strokeplay Championship at Strathmore and will be
bidding to become the first Scottish winner since Comrie’s Carly Booth in 2006.
In its 15th year, the Championship has attracted 102 players
from around Europe and the lowest handicapper is Germany’s Friederike Soph
Nuetzmann. She plays off plus two.
Fiona will be playing for Scotland in the team event
alongside the Troon Ladies’ pair of Emma Hale and Hazel MacGarvie.
For 13-year-old Hazel, it is the perfect start to the
season. “I’ve had a great winter training with the SLGA’s Foundation squad and
making the Under-16 was one of my goals,” said the five handicapper.
The other Scotland team is made up of Emily Dalgetty
(Glencorse), Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) and Claire Robertson (Carnoustie
Ladies).
Carly Booth, the Aberdeen Asset Ladies’ Scottish Open Champion, is
now a high flyer on the Ladies’ European Tour. Other previous home winners were
Krystle Caithness, a back-to-back winner in 2004 and 2005, and Louise Kenney,
who took the title in 1999.
Last year’s winner was Gabriella Cowley from West Essex. The
top Scot was Nicola Callander – she went on to win the SLGA’s Junior Open
Strokeplay Championship at Blairgowrie later in the season.
