Irishman Kevin Phelan from Waterfod, a student at North Florida University, outperformed his five other British and Irish rivals in the Furman Intercollegiate 54-hole tournament over the Furman University course at Greenville, South Carolina (par 72, 6994yd).
Phelan, pictured, who was on the short leet for the 2011 GB and I Walker Cup team, finished T7 in a field of 125 players behind the joint winners on seven-under-par 2009 Drew Aimone (Samford) (73-69-67) and Scott Fernandez (Iowa State) (69-68-72).
Phelan shot 75-68-71 for 214.
Welshman Rhys Pugh (East Tennessee State), who did make the GB and I winning team at Royal Aberdeen in September 2011, finished T28 on 221 (73-73-75).
Scot Liam Johnston (Chattanooga) from Dumfries finished T33 on 222 with scores of 73-75-74.
The magnificent winning run of Georgia State's 6ft 5in freshman from Kent, Jonathan Grey is over. He came down to earth with an opening 80 but was more like his old self with subsequent rounds of 70 and 74 for 224 and a T42 finish. He'll be back though, no doubt about that.
Scott Gibson from Dumfries, a student at East Tesnnessee State, finished T84 on 233 with rounds of 77, 78 and 78.
And finally, the third Scot in the field, Banchory's Chris Robb  (Chattanooga) scored 78, 73 and 84 for 235 and joint 92nd position.
Virginia Teach (843) won the team title quite comfortably from North Florida (862) with Troy third on 873. Chattanooga came seventh on 881; Georgie State eighth on 885 and East Tennessee State T11 on 889 in a field of 21 teams.

MOSELEY MAKES TOP 10 IN GEORGIA

Matthew Moseley, pictured above, from Carmarthenshire, Wales, a student at Michigan State, finished T10 in a field of 80 for the Linger Longer Invitational college tournament over 36 holes at Great Water Golf Club, Greensboro, Georgia.
It was scheduled for three rounds but bad weather forced the cancellation of the third round.
Matthew, coming up to the end of his four-year course, scored 74-69 for 143 over a longish par-72 course of 7073yd.
He finished six shots behind the winner Cory Whitsett (Alabama) who shot 67-70 for 137.
Gareth Blease (Michigan State) from Burhill, Surrey finished 78th with scores of 86-78 for 164.
Michigan State finished 10th of 14 behind team title winners Alabama
