MARTINE POW ENTERS: ONLY FIVE MORE NEEDED FOR PAUL LAWRIE TOUR LAUNCH
Martine Pow, the 2006 Scottish women's amateur champion when the tournament was played at Dunbar, has become the 25th entrant for the Dalmahoy 18-hole competition that will launch the Paul Lawrie Scottish Ladies Open Tour on April 18.
Martine, pictured, also won the British women's mid-amateur championship before the Ladies Golf Union discontinued the tournament.
A minimum of 30 entries is needed for both the Dalmahoy event and the other leg of the Edinburgh double-header - at Ratho Park on April 19, to have prize funds of £3,000, whether in hard cash or prize vouchers for the amateurs (limit value £500)).
That's because the entry fees go straight into each tournament's prize fund. So 30 times £50 = £1,500 + sponsorship money = £3,000 prize fund.
If we don't get 30 entries, then we fall short of the £3,000 target.
That's why it is so important for Scottish lady professionals and amateurs with single-figure handicaps to help get the fledgling tour off the ground.
It has become quite apparent that the interest in the PLGC SLOT in England, Wales and Ireland is not so much lukewarm as stone cold.
But let's show them, we can survive and even prosper without them.
So if you are eligible to play at Dalmahoy and/or Ratho Park on April 18-19, please do so. You can make a difference.
Entries can be made on www.scottishladiestour.co.uk
There is no joining fee and tournament entry fees don't have to be paid until the draw for each event appears on www.scottishladiestour.co.uk or www.kirkwoodgolf.co.uk
