SAMMY VASS J5th IN HUGE VIRGINIA FIELD
Sammy Vass from Tain, in her final couple of months as a student at Gardner-Webb University, North Carolina, finished a creditable joint 15th in a field of 150 players - one of the biggest of the US college golf season - at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate tournament at Kingsmills Resort, Williamsburg, Virginia earlier this week.Sammy, pictured, who gets married to Fraser Fotheringham next January, had rounds of 76 and 77 for a total of 153 over a testing par-71, 5913yd course.She finished eight shots behind the winner Vinh-hoa Ngo (Boston College) who shot 74-71 for 145.
Boston College (598) won the team title ahead of Richmond (607) with Gardner-Webb (617) fifth of 28 teams.
MEGAN MAKES TOP 20 IN TEXAS
Megan Birdsey (Newman University, Wichita, Kansas), a senior-year student finished joint 18th with rounds of 83-78 for 161 in the Midwestern state Invitational women's college tournament at Wichita Falls Country Club, Texas.
Over a par-72 course of 5875yd, Megan, pictured, finished 15 shots behind the joint winners, Spains Anna Arrese Cortadel (Oklahoma Christian) and
Hee-Leina Kim (Colorado State-Pueblo). Both scores 72-74 for 146.
Linzi Allan from Ayrshire, like Megan a final-year student at Newman University, finished just outside the top 20 in a field of 97 players.
In windy conditions, Linzi had rounds of 85 and 77 for a total of 162 which earned her joint 23rd place.
A third Newman University fourth-year student, Alyssa Balding from Northumberland, finished T72 on 177 with scores of 87-90.
Midwestern (633) won the team title with Newman joint fourth on 643
