SOPHIE SWOOPS WITH LAST-ROUND 69 TO WIN LETAS EVENT
Sophie Giquel-Bettan (France), pictured, spreadeagled the field with a final round of four-under-par 69 to win the opening 2013 event on the Ladies European Developmental Tour, LETAS, the Terre Blanche Open at Golfe de Terre Resort near Nice in southern France today.
Sophie, a 30-year-old LET member, had earlier had rounds of 72 and 70. Her final total of eight-under-par 211 earned her 4,040 Euros.
Spanish in-form amateur Patricio Sanz Barrio (she was the individual female winner in the recent European Nations Cup at Sotogrande) was leader overnight but she finished runner-up, four shots behind the winner with scores of 71, 69 and 75 for four-under 215.
They were the only two players to finish under par for three circuits of the testing par-73 Terre Blanche ladies' course.
There was a gap of another four strokes to the joint third-placed finishers, Mireia Prat (Spain) (71-75-71) and Sweden's Daniela Holmqvist (73-74-72), both on level par 219 over the par-73 course.
They each earned 2,390 Euros.
No Scottish, English, Welsh or Irish competitors survived the 36-hole cut to the leading 30 and ties.
