CARNOUSTIE'S KATY McNICOLL LEADING SCOT IN SOUTH AFRICA
Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll, pictured, was the top Scot after a par-matching first round of 72 in the South African Women's Open at Southbroom Golf Club on the Hibiscus Coast.Katy deviated from par only four times - birdies at the sixth and long 18th, bogeys at the seventh and 10th. That gave her a top 20 placing - joint 16th - three shots behind Norway;s former British girls champion Marian Skarpnord whose 69 sees her lead by one from seven players, including teenage rookie pro Charley Hull. Kylie Walker had a bag of six birdies but more than cancelled them out with two double bogeys and three single shots dropped in compiling an erratic 73 for a share of 27th place. Pamela Pretswell from Hamilton, making her debut on the LET this year, shot a disappointing, lacklustre, birdie-less 75 for joint 56th place. Carly Booth from Comrie is in danger of missing the cut after a 76 for a share of 69th place. She is one over the projected cut mark going into the second round.
