GRANT FORREST WINS WEST COAST CONFERENCE TITLE IN AMERICA
FROM THE SGU WEBSITE
Grant Forrest, the reigning Scottish
Amateur champion, has achieved his biggest win to date in America after
triumphing at the 2013 West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships.
The
19-year-old, who claimed the national amateur crown at Royal Dornoch
last summer, fired a final-round three-under-par 69 over three rounds to
emerge victorious.
Craigielaw's Forrest,
a student at the University of San Diego, posted a six-under-par total
to beat runner-up James Fahy of Gonzaga by four strokes.
Forrest,
last year's WCC Freshman of the Year, was eight-under-par over his
final two rounds on the Olympic Course (par-72, 6,980 yards) at the Gold
Mountain Golf Club. “WCC champion 2013! Great week!” Forrest said on
Facebook.
The SGU Men’s Transitional
Squad member, who played his part in Scotland’s Home Internationals win
at Glasgow Golf Club’s Gailes Links last year, is currently the nation’s
top-ranked amateur player, sitting 93rd in the standings.
Forrest added: "I've come close a few times this year, a couple of runner-up finishes, so it was good to finish off the job.
“It's
obviously a great honour. We play against a lot of these guys
throughout the year and this is the first time I've come out on top. It
definitely is a good feeling."Labels: US COLLEGES
