NEWS RELEASE FROM IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Olivia Mehaffey (Royal County Down Ladies) shot a level par final round 71 to win the Irish Under-18 girls' open stroke-play Championship over three rounds at Roganstown Golf and Country Club.
Olivia, pictured, was four under par through nine holes of her final round with birdies on the 3rd, 6th, 7th and 9th holes holes but suffered a triple bogey 8 on the 10th. Olivia regained her momentum and was level par for the remaining holes, finishing with a birdie 4 on the home green.
Mehaffey, a candidate for a place in the GB and I team for the Under-16s Junior Vagliano Trophy match at Chantilly, Paris in June, won with a total of seven-over-par 220 over the par-71 course.
She won by two strokes from four players - England's Dulcie Sverdloff and Sophie Madden (also runner-up in the Scottish Under-16 girls' championship earlier this month), 36-hole leader Marthe Wold (Norway) and Sweden's Marina Hedlund.
Madden and Sverdloff (pictured with Irish legend Mary McKenna) won the team award for England with 296 from “Ireland A” who finished on 298.
Dulcie, on a card countback, also won the silver pendant as individual runner up.
Last year's Scottish U18 girls champion Lauren Whyte (St Regulus) finished top Scot on 232 in joint ninth place overall. She was a shot ahead of Monifieth's Heather Munro who was placed joint 11th.
Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) gave Scotland a third top-20 finisher in 16th place on 235.
