Jess Schiele from Grimsby, coming up to the end of her fourth and final year at Oklahoma City University, finished second behind US Curtis Cup team member Amy Anderson (North Dakota State) in the Kangaroo Invitational women's college tournament over 54 holes at Shoal Creek Golf Club, Kansas City.
To be honest, Jess should have won. She was the clear leader of a field of 60 players after rounds of 71 and 67 for six-under 138 over the par-72, 6124yd course.
Amy Anderson, pictured left, was three shots in arrears after scores of 69 and 72.
But the American turned it around over the final 18 holes when a one-over-par 73 for two-under 214 was good enough to reel in and overtake the faltering Schiele who signed for a six-over 78 and a final total of 216, two behind the winner.
North Dakota State scored a double whammy by winning the team title by four shots from runners-up Oklahoma City in a field of 10 teams.
