Cold and brezzy conditions have made scoring tricky over Strathmore in Round 1 of the Under 16's Championship. Play was delayed for an hour at the start of the day due to overnight frost, however the sun was shinning as the first groups got us underway. The English and Italian teams were out in the morning times and were making the most of it with Eloise Healey's level par 72 leading the way.
Another bright spark from the day came from Georgia Ball who had a hole in one at the 6th hole, her first ever.
ADDITIONAL WORDS FROM COLIN FARQUHARSON
West Lancashire's Eloise Healey broke a logjam at the top of the leaderboard with a grandstand finish on the first day of the Scottish Under-16 girls' open stroke-play golf championship at Strathmore Golf Centre, Alyth in Perthshire.
Eloise had four birdies in all in matching the testing par of 72 with halves of 37-35. Three of them were over the last five holes - the long 14th, the 15th and the long 18th. But for a bogey at the short 17th sandwiched among the sub-par figures, the Lancashire lass would have had a two-shot lead to carry over into the second day.
Her closest rivals on 73 are two others who have made the trip up over the Border - Alice Hewson (Berkhamsted) and Sophie Madden (West Sussex), plus Olivia Mehaffey from Royal Co Down in Northern Ireland.
Alice had birdies at the fourth, 12th and 18th in halves of 37-37 while Sophie birdied the third and 14th in a 36-37 scorecard.
Aboyne's Shannon McWilliam finished the day with a 75 after the most spectacular start by anyone - an eagle 3 at the par-5 first hole. She also birdie the third but a double bogey 5 at the short 17th knocked out her out of the top groups.
