SANDRA PAUL KNOCKS OUT TOP SEED LULU HOUSEMAN AT SHERWOOD FOREST
FROM THE ENGLAND GOLF WEBSITE
Yorkshire’s Sandra Paul claimed the first scalp of the English senior women’s championship at Sherwood Forest when she knocked out top qualifier Lulu Housman in a marathon match.
Sandra (Huddersfield) broke the deadlock when she parred the 20th to claim her place in the quarter finals. “I’m very pleased,” she said. “It’s the first time I’ve got through to the second round and it’s always good to go one better than before.”
Sandra was the 16th qualifier for the championship matchplay but was undaunted by the prospect of playing the top seed. “I knew I was playing OK and you’ve got to be confident or you might as well not bother playing.” Now she plays defending champion Chris Quinn (Hockley) in the second round.
Sherwood Forest’s Janet Melville kept the home hopes alive when she won the last three holes to beat Felicity Christine 1 up and reach the quarter finals. She now plays Lindsey Shaw of Derbyshire.
