SAMMY LESLIE WINS TOP SEEDING FOR ABERDEENSHIRE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH-PLAY

Sammy Leslie, title-winner in 2010, earned top seeding for this week's Aberdeenshire women's county golf championship with a par-matching 73 in unpleasant cold and wet conditions at Kemnay tonight (Friday).

The Aberdeen Ladies player, pictured, who has won a fight against cancer since her success at Portlethen three years ago,  birdied the first, seventh, ninth, 15th and 16th in halves of 37-36 to finish three shots ahead of defending champion and No 2 seed, Sheena Wood, also Aberdeen Ladies.

Sheena is bidding for her sixth title in 31 years as a county member.

Young Kimberley Beveridge from Aboyne is the third leading qualifier with a 77.

Four players tied for the last of 16 spots in the match-play stages.

A card countback gave the place to Kelly Guthrie (Oldmeldrum) who had a better inward half (41) than Molly Stewart (Murcar Links) 42, Sally Collinson (Westhill) 43 and Mhairi Johnstone (Murcar Links) 44.

Molly later withdrew from the handicap match-play and her place went to Yvonne Richal  (Peterculter).
