SEAN LAWRIE FINISHES JT 13TH IN NJCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
Alex Mahlik and Andrew Klasing recorded top-10 individual finishes to
help Central Alabama CC capture the NJCAA National Championship at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas.
Mahlik finished T-6 with a 6-under 283 total while Klasing shot 285 to finish T-8.
Central Alabama shot 2-under 1,150 as a team to beat runner-up Odessa College by a shot.
Scottsdale CC (1,155), Johnson County CC (1,157) and Brevard CC (1,159) rounded out the top 5.
Wallace State CC's Aksel Olsen won individual medalist honours after shooting 7-under 281 and then winning a playoff over T.J. Morgan of Meridian CC.
Sean Lawrie (Midland) finished joint 13th on 287 with scores of 74, 69, 74 and 70.
The other Scot in the field, Chris Low (McLennan College) from Edinburgh finished T54 on 298 (74-73-74-77).
Midland College finished ninth in the fied o 24 teams with a total of 1167.
McLennan College (1169) came 10th.
Greg Eason from Leicester, a 6ft 2in junior (third) year student at the University of Central Florida opened up a six-shot lead over the field of 75 with rounds of 65 and 63 for 12-under-par 128 in the NCAA Tempe Regional over the Karsten course (Par 70, 7,036yd) at the Arizona venue.
His nearest rival was UCF team-mate Ricardo Gouveia with 68-66 for 134.
Ireland's Kevin Phelan, a student at North Florida University, shot a pair of 68s for 136 to be lying three shots behind leader and team-mate M J Maguire who had scores of 65-68 for 133 over a par-72 course of 6,965yd.
North Florida (549) lead the team chase by two shots from Washignton (551) with Florida State (553) in third place.
Tom Berry from Surrey, a student at San Diego State University, shot rounds of 66-74 for 140 to be 14 shots behind the leader by six, Sam Smith (South Carolina) in the NCAA Pullman Regional at Palouse Ridge, Pullman, Washington.
Smith had brilliant rounds of 62 and 64 for a fantastic 18-under-par tally of 126. California (541) leading from Southern California (552) at that venue.
Chris Robb (Tennessee-Chattanooga) from Banchory had scores of 77 and 74 for 151 to be 11 shots beind leader Carl Jonson (UNLV) (68-72 for 140) in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional at Columbus, Ohio. Johnson scored 68-72 to head a field of 75 players by one stroke.
