CARA WINS NORTHERN COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP FOR FIFTH TIME

Cara Gruber (Royal Dornoch) has won the Northern Counties women's county championship for a fifth time - but the first since her recent marriage changed her surname to Thompson.
Mrs Thompson beat clubmate Alison Bartlett by 2 and 1 in a good final to watch at Nairn Dunbar Golf Club today.
All square at the turn and still level pegging after 14 holes with Thompson having won the 11sth but losing the 12th where she lost a ball.
Cara came out of a bunker stone dead to win the 15th and this time it proved decisive. The 16th was halved and Cara clinched the title when she won the 17th for a 2 and 1 success.
Barbara Grant (Forres) beat June Nicol (Inverness) by 2 and 1 in the handicap championship final.
