CLARA YOUNG TO JOIN UNIVERSITY OF MISSOUI IN AUGUST 2014
CLARA YOUNG ... won East Lothian women's county championship at the age of 15.
United Sports USA are delighted to announce that Clara Young (North Berwick) has committed to the University of Missouri on a full scholarship for the autumn of next year (2014).
Clara will be competing in the strongest conference in women’s golf in the USA the Southeast Conference(SEC) and will be testing her game against current SEC and British Ladies Champion Stephanie Meadow who is a student at rivals Alabama University
“I couldn’t believe the number of universities that got in contact with me and it was a really tough decision to narrow them down. I really liked the fact that the Coach Coop had seen me play in Germany at the European Girls last summer and we seemed to hit it off during the conversations that we had," said Clara.
"Mizzou has everything a player could want to get better and the fact that they play in such a tough conference made it even more appealing. I am excited about heading out to America next year and can’t wait to test myself against the best America has to offer.”
The current SLGA Girls' Champion of Champions title-holder, Clara will be joining Scotland team-mate Jess Meek (Carnoustie Ladies) who is set to begin her collegiate career this August with the Tigers.
Clara, who won't be 17 years old until September, was, at the age of 15 the youngest player ever to win the East Lothian women's county title.
She played for Great Britain and Ireland in the inaugural Under-16s Junior Vagliano Trophy match against the Continue of Europe at Royal Porthcawl in June 2011.
