FIVE ANGUS TITLES IN A ROW FOR AILSA SUMMERS
Ailsa Summers, 19-year-old Carnoustie Ladies player, set what is believed to be an Angus women's county golf championship record today (Sunday) when she won the county title for the fifth year
Ailsa beat Jacqueline Sneddon (Alyth) at the 19th in the final at Monifieth Links - the closest match of the five finals in which Miss Summers has played.
It was Ailsa's second 19th hole success of the day. She survived at the first extra hole against Claire Penman (Carnoustie Caledonia) in the morning semi-finals in which Miss Sneddon beat Jackie Brown (Monifieth) 5 and 4 in the other tie.
Ailsa Summers' mother Mary has also won the Angus title five times, but not in consecutive years. Her title successes were achieved betweeeb 1987 and 2005. Mrs Summers also was beaten in five Angus county finals.
The Angus county handicap championship was won by Sue Baxby (Ladies Panmure Barry) who beat Christine Orr (Carnoustie Caledonian) by 4 and 2.
