KATIE REID FROM MONIFIETH TOPPLES NO 2 SEED RACHEL WALKER AT LONGNIDDRY

Second seed Rachel Walker (Dumfries and County) fell at the first hurdle in the match-play stages of the Scottish women's amateur championship at Longniddry Golf Club, East Lothian.

Rachel, hopng to enrol at Old Dominion University at Norfolk, Virginia in August as a national champion, was beaten by the 31st of the 32 qualifiers, Katie Reid (Monifieth) who is a third-year student at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
Katie, pictured, will now play Stirling student Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) who was a 3 and 1 winner over Carol Wilson (Murcar Links).
In the last first-round tie to finish, No 7 seed Alyson McKechin (Elderslie), who leads the SLGA Women's Order of Merit, was taken to the 19th green before achieving victory over the 26th qualifier, Rachael Livingstone (Craigmillar Park) who was one of Scotland's leading Under-18 girls in the past.
Top seed Jess Meek (Carnoustie Ladies) continues to make every post a winning one at Longniddry.
She beat former international and past beaten finalist Claire Hargan (St Regulus) by 5 and 4 in their first-round match this morning.
Jess will now play the 16th seed Louise Macgregor (Falkirk) who recently won the Stirling and Clackmannan county title for the fourth year in a row.
This morning Louise won by 5 and 4 against 17th qualifier Jordana Graham (Stirling University and Southerness GC).
Another early winner was Eilidh Briggs (Stirling University and Kilmacolm GC), the fifth seed at Longniddry.
Eilidh, a former Scottish Under-18 girls match-play champion and beaten in the 2011 Scottish women's final at Machrihanish, won by 7 and 5 against Linda Bain, the 28th qualifier, from Lochend.
She now plays young Tara MacTaggart, the 21st qualifier from Minto who beat the 12th seed, Nicola Robertson (Milngavie) by 2 and 1.
Ninth qualifier Hannah Scott (Broomieknowe), the Midlothian county champion, beat Catherine Small (Gullane Ladies) by 3 and 2 and will now play Florida Tech student Rachel Polson (Peterculter) who ousted former Scottish champion Elaine Moffat (St Regulus) on the 18th green.
Fourth seed Clara Young (North Berwick), who won't be 17 until September but already twice East Lothian women's county champion and a Junior Vagliano Trophy player for GB and I two years ago, won by 7 and 6 against Jenny Potter (Cathkin Braes).
She now plays 15-year-old Germany-based Fiona Liddell - her father is a club pro over there. Fiona beat Tegan Seivwright (Deeside) at the 19th.
Fiona is the 20th qualifier and Tegan was No 13, unlucky for some!
Eilidh Briggs' older sister, Megan, champion at Southerness in 2009, joined her in the last 16 with a 2 and 1 win over the 2010 Scottish girls match-play champion, Lesley Atkins (Gullane Ladies).
It will be a meeting of past title-holders when Megan Briggs plays Hilary Wardell (Longniddry) in the afternoon for a place in the quarter-finals.
Hilary won the title when her surname was Monaghan at Portpatrick Dunskey in 1995.  Mrs Wardell - wife of Whitekirk club pro Paul - beat Nichola Ferguson (Milngavie) 4 and 3 at lunchtime.
