Lauren Taylor (Baylor) and Brandon Stone (Texas) have been named April’s Big 12 Golfers of the Month. The freshman duo were each crowned conference champions last month, winning medalist honors at their respective Big 12 Championships. Stone becomes the first freshman in Big 12 history to win the award three times in a season.

Stone was crowned Big 12 individual champion last month, besting the field by three shots at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The win was his third of the year. In nine rounds last month, Stone shot no worse than 74 and led the Longhorns to their fourth conference championship in school history.

Taylor earned her first career victory at the Big 12 Championship, becoming the second freshman in league history to win the event. Taylor ran away with the tournament title, finishing eight strokes ahead of the field. The freshman carded the tournament’s lowest scores in each of the three rounds. 

Her 54-hole total of 213 matched the fourth-lowest score in championship history. Taylor’s performance led Baylor to a 2nd-place finish at the Big 12 Championship, the Bears’ best finish at the conference championship in school history.
