The Continent of European team selectors left the ninth place in their Vagliano Trophy side vacant until after last week's British women's open amateur championship. They had named eight players earlier.

That place has gone to Malaga teenager Noemi Jimenez instead of another Spanish youngster, Madrid University student Luna Sobron (pictured right) from Majorca, who lost by one hole  to Georgia "Ace up her Sleeve" Hall in the final at Machynys.
Jimenez lost to Hall 3 and 1 in the morning semi-final before the half-gale got up. There were nine birdies in their tie: five by Hall and four by Jimenez. Hall was four or five under par for the 17 holes played. It would have made a great final.
