PAULA GRANT WINS IRISH WOMEN'S CLOSED TITLE AT AGE OF 19
Paula Grant, a 19-year-old from Lisburn Golf Club, is the new Irish women's closed amateur champion.
She beat 18-year-old Lisa Maguire (Slieve Russell) at the 19th in the final at Ballybunion Golf Club this afternoon.
In a wind gusting up to 40mph, Grant won the first and second but lost the sixth, ninth, 11th and 12th to be two down.
Grant won the 13th and 15th to square the match.
Maguire, the 2009 Irish champion and a GB and I Curtis Cup player in the past, edged ahead again by winning the 17th but Grant squared the match at the 18th.
Both faced putts of approximately 22ft for par at the 19th. Maguire missed hers, Grant holed to win the title.
