CHANNEL ISLANDER OLIVIA LEADS SYMETRA TOUR EVENT BY TWO

FROM THE LPGA SYMETRA TOUR WEBSITE

Third-year Symetra Tour member Olivia-Jordan Higgins, from Jersey in the Channel Islands, is feeling comfortable in the state of New York as she fired a second-round 4-under 67 to take the lead at the Credit Union Classic Presented by Wegmans.
Similar to the Credit Union Challenge held in Albany, Jordan-Higgins, pictured, heads into Sunday's final-round with a two-stroke lead over Megan McChrystal.
Higgins, a former US college circuit player, had the flat stick working well on Saturday as she only needed 28 putts on a round that included six birdies and two bogeys on the par-71 Drumlins Country Club, East Course.
Jordan-Higgins came out of the gate firing on all cylinders on Saturday with three consecutive birdies on the first three holes which includes two par-5’s.
“I putted very well,” said Jordan-Higgins. “I got off to a good start and birdied the first two par-5’s so that got me a little relaxed and I was like okay, today is going to be a good day. For the most part, it was putting, I didn’t hit it particularly close but I holed a lot of good putts. It was very solid today.”
Jordan-Higgins then recorded her first bogey of the day at the par-4 seventh but immediately got back on track with birdies at the par-4 10th, par-3 12th and par-5 13th
Currently ranked No. 22 on the Volvik Race for the Card standings, Jordan-Higgins recorded her second and final bogey of the day after a wayward drive on the par-4 15th left her next to a tree trunk. Despite the untimely bogey which moved her to 7-under for the tournament, Jordan-Higgins felt fortunate to only drop one shot.
“I really wasn’t bothered by the bogey, it was just one of those things that I don’t like to hit it left on that hole so the reaction is to hit it right,” said Jordan-Higgins.
“I just got unlucky and hit it right next to the tree trunk and there’s not much I can do about that, it was just a bit of bad luck. I really wasn’t too mad about that bogey, I was actually pretty pleased that I managed to get a bogey out of that hole.”
As Jordan-Higgins enters the final-round in search of her first Symetra Tour victory, the Charleston Southern University graduate plans on taking it one shot at a time.
“If it’s my time, it’s my time/ That’s basically what it comes down to,” said Jordan-Higgins. If I can get the putter hot again, I can’t see why I can’t win.
"I just have to keep doing what I’m doing and it will be very important for me to take each shot as it comes tomorrow and not get too ahead of myself or think about winning. That’s just going to be the main goal.”
McChrystal carded seven birdies and two bogeys during the second-round as she fired the round of the day with a 6-under 65. In the midst of an up-and-down season, McChrystal had thoughts of birdies on Saturday which was jumpstarted by a 5-foot par saving putt on the first.
“This is embarrassing but I made about a 5-footer for par on the first hole after hitting it in the greenside bunker on two so I was like okay, here we go,” said McChrystal.
“Then I birdied two and just said alright, let’s see how far we can go today. For the first time this week a bogey hasn’t really been on my mind at all so that’s different.”
A total of 78 players made the 36-hole cut which fell at 5-over-par.
Excited for Sunday Funday!
Olivia Jordan-Higgins might have gotten off to a slow start to the 2013 Symetra Tour season but after a recent string of good finishes that included a tie for second at the Credit Union Challenge in Albany, N.Y., it appears her season has turned around.

During the previous three weeks on the Road to the LPGA, Jordan-Higgins has gone into the final-day with a 2-stroke lead, and found herself in the second to last group in Concord, N.H. After firing a second-round 4-under 67 at this week’s Credit Union Classic Presented by Wegmans, Jordan-Higgins is in familiar territory and feeling relaxed.
“I’m very excited,” said Jordan-Higgins about tomorrow’s final-round. “It’s been a rough year and it’s been a little slow, I’ve been putting too much pressure on myself. The last three weeks I’ve been in the final group, the second to last group, then the final group again on Sunday here.
"I’m gaining a lot of experience from it, I’m gaining a lot more experience being in that position and I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do on Sunday because I am feeling more relaxed.”
The third-year Symetra Tour member received a bit of extra advice on Thursday as LPGA Hall of Famer Sandra Haynie was on-site to conduct a seminar on performing under pressure
Jordan-Higgins, who has been working all season on applying less pressure to herself, utilized several helpful tips gained from Haynie to jump-out to the second-round lead.
“It’s given me a new perspective and a different way to think about things. It was what I needed to refocus my mind and get the belief that I can do this. It’s been really good.”
Of Note… Alice Kim recorded the second ace of the tournament as she hit a hybrid on the 12th hole…Moah Chang also recorded a hole-in-one during the second round as she aced the 8th hole with an  8-iron from 130 yards.
