CORCORAN BEATS WICKHAM IN SENIOR IRISH FINAL

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Leading qualifier Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna) defeated Carol Wickham (Laytown and Bettystown) to win her first Irish Senior Women’s Close Championship at Woodenbridge Golf Club in the Vale of Avoca today.
In glorious sunshine, Carol seized the initiative early on and led by one hole on the sixth tee. Suzanne then won three holes in a row to be two up at the turn.
A par on eleven saw her increase her lead but Carol returned the deficit to two holes after 12. A bunkered approach saw Suzanne return to three up on 13, an advantage she maintained with some impressive iron play, and eventually closed out the match at the 16th.
Earlier in the day, Suzanne beat Gertie McMullen (The Island) on the 16th green while Carol had a battle rooyale with Donabate's Pat Doran which ended on the home green when Doran missed from twenty feet for birdie.
In the Plate, Marilyn Henderson (Royal Belfast) continued her solid performance all week. defeating Ruth Maguire (Corrstown) on sixteen.
