FIONA HUNTERCOMPLETES SENIOR DOUBLE FIVE YEARS LATER

Fiona Hunter (Southerness), a former Baberton and Dundas Parks member, won her second Scottish senior women's golf title - five years after the first - when she beat Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose) by 2 and 1 in today's (Friday) match-play championship final at West Linton Golf Club..
In 2008 Hunter won the Scottish senior women's stroke-play championship at Kinross.
Following a 19th hole morning semi-final win over Kathleen Webster (Ladybank), Hunter, picture by courtesy of the SLGA, seized the initiative in the 18-hole final by winning the first two holes and she remained two up at the turn.
Sutherland, a former champion, reduced the deficit with a birdie at the long 15th and was still just one down with two to play.
Hunter then drove the green at the long par-3 17th hole and two putts for a par secured her the title.
"I'm thrilled to bits to complete the double," said Hunter, who started her career in Scottish girls' events playing out of Dumfries and Galloway and then moved to Dundas Parks and Baberton before returning south.
"I've played for Scotland at senior level in European Championships and a real highlight was helping Scotland win the Senior Home Internationals at Newport a few
years ago.
"The final was very tough. I made a good start but got a little nervous towards the end."
In the semi-finals, Sutherland ended the hopes of another Ladybank player with a one- hole victory over Lorna Bennett.
