TOP SEED EMILY DALGETTY BEATEN BY FORMER CHAMPION LESLEY ATKINS

Top seed Emily Dalgetty (Glencorse) was beaten 4 and 3 by the 2010 champion, Lesley Atkins (Gullane) in the second round of the Scottish Under-18 girls championship at Ranfurly Castle GC, Bridge of Weir in Renfrewshire today.
In Friday morning's quarter-finals Lesley will play Perth and Kinross county player Nicola Robertson (Dunblane New), pictured, who beat East Lothian women's champion Clara Young (North Berwick) by 5 and 4 - arguably the shock result of the day although Nicola recently reached the final of the North of Scotland women's championship at Deeside GC.
Clara was beaten by Alyson McKechin in the final of the Scottish women's amateur championship at Longniddry in May.
Nicola, who had her 18th birthday last March, was one over par in winning by 5 and 4 in the morning against Leanne Wilson (Kelso) and then one UNDER par in beating Clara Young by such a decisive margin.
Defending champion Lauren Whyte (St Regulus), bidding to become the first player since Carly Booth in 2007-2008 to win the Under-18s title two years in a row, is still there - but only just. She won at the 19th against golf writer Colin Callander's daughter Nicola, a Hertfordshire-based player who won the Scottish U21 girls' stroke play title at Blairgowrie last year.
Lauren will play Scottish girls international team-mate Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) in the round of the last eight.
Heather Munro (Monfieth), another who played for Scotland in the European girls team championship last week, will face up to Danielle Kerr (Roxburghe) while Eilidh Watson (Muckhart) will play the No 2 seed Tara MacTaggart (Minto).
In the morning first round, Junior Vagliano Trophy player, Germany-based Fiona Liddell was beaten 3 and 1 by Ellie Bryce (Strathaven).
