KATHLEEN WEBSTER COPES BEST WITH WEST LINTON WIND AND RAIN

Fifer Kathleen Webster shrugged off the unpleasant conditions, rain and a blustery breeze, to lead the field with a two-over-par 74 - matching the CSS - at the halfway stage of the Scottish senior women's amateur stroke play championship at West Linton Golf Club today (Tuesday).
The Ladybank GC member  highlighted her three-birdie round with a 2 at the short second – a six iron to ten feet – and another at the par-3 17th where a three wood to the back of the green was followed by the perfect putt.
"I played girls' golf but then hardly played at all for about 25 years," said Webster. "I retired a couple of years ago and have now come back into the game again.
"The weather was very tough so I'm delighted with the score."
On two over par, Webster led by two shots with a round to go from  Milngavie's Anna Telfer with Fiona de Vries (St Rule) another stroke back on 77.
De Vries had double-bogeys at the second and fourth but kept her chin up and finished in style with a birdie at the 18th.
Only nine players broke 80 in the far from summery conditions and defending champion Alison Bartlett (Royal Dornoch) goes into the final round eight shots behind the leader on 82.
The top 16 from the stroke play championsip qualify for the Scottish senior women's match play championship over the same course on Thursday and Friday.
