NO CHANTILLY LACE FOR R and A/LADIES GOLF UNION LINE-UP v EGA
GILLIAN KIRKWOOD REPORTING
I'm afraid we did not do well in the big match on Sunday at Chantilly GC - the European Golf Association team bt the combined R and A/Ladies Golf Union line-up by 3.5 to 2.5.
We can all think of places where, if we had holed a putt, then the result would be different. Now that I have played the course I realise how difficult and demanding it was for the girls in the Vagliano and Junior Vagliano Trophy matches, with punishing rough ready to gobble up the ball, extremely tricky greens well protected by bunkers, and a really quick putting surface where you just need to touch the ball for it to end up three feet past.
That said, Chantilly is truly wonderful and a great test of golf. I really admire the skill of the girls to get round this course in anything under par.
MATCH RESULTS
(R and A/Ladies Golf Union names first:
Pierre Bechmann and Trish Wilson lost to Brigitte Ljung and Antti Peltoniemi 3 and 2.
Keith Macintosh and Gavin Caldwell bt Alexis Godillot and Ronald Pfeiffer 1 hole
Jonathan King and Chris Hilton bt Richard Heath and Rollo McClure 1 hole
Keith Andrews and Gillian Kirkwood lost to Gonzaga Escauriaza and Andy Morgan 1 hole
David Kirkwood and Maureen Lockett halved with Colin Wood and Jean-Marc Mommer
Hamish Ritchie and Brigid McCaw lost to Hans Malmstrom and Soren Clemmenson 3 and 2.
Match result: R and A / LGU 2.5, EGA 3.5
All the best
