faced a long evening haul from Buckinghamshire to Fife at the conclusion of the Handa Ladies Masters

Majorca-based Carly Booth missed the cut in the Ladies European Tour event and could make a more leisurely journey to her family home at Comrie before crossing over to Kingsbarns, a mile or two south from St Andrews.

The other Scots in the Final Q field are Michele Thomson from Ellon and Nairn's Kelsey MacDonald who came through the preliminary qualifying competition at The Berkshire Golf Club, and Junior Vagliano Trophy player, Germany-based Fiona Liddell.

The leading 16 in a field of close on 100 at the 18-hole Kingsbarns test will qualify for the main event over the Old Course, starting on Thursday.

Reid Heads the Field at Final Qualifying for the 2013 Ricoh Women’s British Open at Kingsbarns Golf Links

England’s Mel Reid is one of several star names who will be teeing up at Kingsbarns Golf Links on Monday (July 29) attempting to earn a place in the field for the 2013 Ricoh Women’s British Open which starts over the Old Course, St Andrews, on Thursday.

25 year-old Reid, from Derby, a four-time winner of the Ladies European Tour, and a member of the 2011 victorious European Solheim Cup team, will be joined at Final Qualifying at Kingsbarns by 2012 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Ladies Open champion Carly Booth, 2013 European Assistant Solheim Cup captain Carin Koch, LPGA players Laura Diaz and Heather Bowie-Young, and Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods, as 104 players battle it out for 16 places in this year’s field at the Old Course.

To date, just one Scottish player, Catriona Matthew, the winner of the 2009 Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes, has earned a place in this year’s Championship but that could change on Monday when Booth is joined at Kingsbarns by compatriots Pamela Pretswell, Kelsey MacDonald, Michele Thomson, Vikki Laing and Fiona Liddell.

The German-based Liddell is one of a total of 20 amateurs in the field in Fife.  

That list is headed by Bronte Law and Amy Boulden, who were both members of the victorious 2012 GB and I Curtis Cup team at Nairn and also includes England’s Hayley Davis, Amber Ratcliffe, Gabby Cowley, Alex Peters, Lauren Taylor, Meghan MacLaren, Sophie Madden, Samantha Fuller, Annabel Dimmock, Alice Hewson and Rachael Goodall, Swedish duo Linnea Johansson and Madelene Sagstrom, France’s Mathilda Cappeliez, Germany’s Nicole Ressler, Israel’s Laetitia Beck and Katja Podocar from Slovenia.

The action starts at 7.30 am on Monday when Canada’s Rebecca Lee-Bentham, France’s Joanna Klatten and Camilla Lennarth go out in the first group. Reid is paired with Law and Sweden’s Louise Larsson at 8.03 am while Booth is in a 3-ball at 9.53 alongside Spanish former Solheim Cup player Tania Elosegui and English amateur international Cowley.

Entrance into Final Qualifying for the 2013 Ricoh Women’s British Open is free of charge.
