SIXTH TIME LUCKY FOR SAL SHEPHERD IN HIGHLAND OPEN FINAL AT PITLOCHRY

Sal Shepherd (Craigmillar Park) won the Highland Women's Open championship for the first time at Pitlochry Golf Club this afternoon when she beat local player Isla Moncrieff by 3 and 2 in the final.
Sal has been playing in the tournament for 20 years and this was her sixth appearance in the final. It was Isla's first final.
It was a very tight match until Shepherd suddenly raised her game to birdie three holes in a row from the 14th to win the final on the 16th green. She was roughly level par for the holes played.
In the morning semi-finals, Shepherd beat the top qualifier Laura Walker (Muckhart) by 4 and 3 in a quality match. Their better ball was five under par.
In the other semi-final, Isla Moncrieff was three up at the turn against Pitlochry clubmate Laura Campbell and birdied the 10th to take a four-hole lead. She went on to win 5 and 4.
