ABOYNE'S SHANNON MCWILLIAM IS SCOTTISH UNDER-14 GIRLS CHAMPION
Aboyne's Shannon McWilliam won the Loretto School Scottish Under-14 girls' stroke-play championship at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club today (Monday).
She had scores of 75 and 79 for a 36-hole total of 10-over-par 154.
Shannon had her 14th birthday on August 8. She has a handicap of four and has played on the Aberdeenshire girls circuit since she was knee-high to a toadstool.
Over the two days, Shannon (pictured) had five birdies, three in her opening round in which she went to the turn in 34, and two in her closing rounds.
McWilliam won by three strokes from five players on the 157 mark, including first-round leader Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) (73-84), Charlotte Munro (Gullane) 80-77, and Lucy Walton (The Worcestershire) 79-78.
The boys' title went over the Border to England in the hands of Charlie Strickland, a junior member of Ham Manor Golf Club, West Sussex. He had scores of 70 and 72 for two-under-par 142.
Charlie outclassed his opposition, winning five five shots from William Eardley from Pannal, Yorkshire and Germany's Leopold Benze. Eardly scored 74-73. Benze 76-71.
The leading Scots in the boys' section were Aidan Husenne (Haggs Castle) 81-71 and Calum Mitchell (Balmore) 76-76, joint ninth on 152.
