BEN EARNS HIS SPURS AS 19-Y-0 TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR OF GIRLS' INTERNATIONALS

                                                     BEN WILSON

He's only 19 - his 19th birthday was yesterday in fact - but Ben Wilson has earned his spurs as a Ladies Golf Union Tournament Director.
Ben, who hails from the village of Gauldry, at the south end of the Tay Bridge - was the young man who had the ultimate responsibility for running the Girls Home Internationals over three days - Wednesday to Friday - at St Annes Old Links Golf Club, Lancashire this past week.
The tournament lasted only three days but, of course, the LGU team arrived the weekend before to set everything up and months before that there were site visits to check out arrangements.
"I enjoyed it," said Ben after a night out in Blackpool to celebrate his 19th birthday and the successful conclusion of his first tournament as "the boss."
"I won't deny it was stressful at times - every tournament is - but we got there in the end and I think everyone enjoyed it."
Ben joined the Ladies Golf Union staff at its St Andrews HQ straight from school (Madras College) after working part-time at LGU tournaments for a summer or two,
"Ben will be the Tournament Director at the Girls, Women's and Senior Women's Home Internationals from now on," said Susan Simpson, the LGU Head of Golf Operations.
Ben played for the Madras College rugby team as prop.
